About Mineral Wells Heritage Association and the Rock Schoolhouse Museum

The Rock School, erected in 1884, was Mineral Wells’ first public school. It was last used in 1968 as a band hall. It was leased to the Mineral Wells Heritage Association in 1974, renovated, and converted to a museum dedicated to the preservation of the history of the City of Mineral Wells.

Rock School House, Home of the Mineral Wells Heritage Association MuseumThe photo on the left appears to have been taken at the time of its renovation and conversion, as the worker on the ladder makes evident. The bell tower has been enclosed, window screens, and doors have been painted or replaced. The property now belongs to the MWHS Fifty Year Club, however, the museum is still operated by the Mineral Wells Heritage Association.
The Mineral Wells Heritage Association was incorporated on June 20, 1974, at 302 NW 32nd Street, Mineral Wells, TX.
On July 1, 1975, the association signed a 25-year lease for $25 per year on the 1884 Little Rock Schoolbuilding to establish it as a museum. It was deeded to the Mineral Wells Heritage Association in 2000, and the Heritage Association deeded it to the MWHS Fifty Year Club in 2025
A. F. Weaver, President of the Mineral Wells Heritage Association; L. Gordon Nelson, Vice President; Mrs. Gordon Nelson, Chairperson for the Restoration Committee, and Bill Hall, Superintendent of Mineral Wells Schools were present at the signing of the agreement.
The Little Rock School, in 2025, remains a museum dedicated to the preservation of the History of Mineral Wells. The front doors may be replaced with the front doors of the burnt-out Fanin High School on the adjacent property in the near future.

The Mineral Wells Heritage Association has its monthly meetings on the 2nd Thursday of the month at the Little Rock School House, 105 N. W. 5th Ave., Mineral Wells, TX. We survive through the generous Donations and the Volunteering of our members and supporters.

We appreciate your support
