About Our Foundation
On July 1, 1975, the association signed a 25-year lease, at $25 per year, for the Little Rock School building for the purpose of establishing it as a museum. The Rock Schoolhouse was (some sources indicate 1886) the first public school in Mineral Wells. Stones were transported from nearby Rock Creek in mule-drawn wagons and cut by hand on the site.
The Little Rock School, to this day, remains a museum dedicated to the preservation of the History of Mineral Wells. The building was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1987.
